Occasion
Commemoration of the classical philologist and Judaist Kurt Schubert, who, in 1945, established Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna, the first chair of its kind in the German-speaking world. Kurt Schubert was committed to Jewish-Christian dialogue and the fight against Antisemitism throughout his life.
Target Groups
Civil society initiatives, people who are committed to interreligious dialogue and academics who have rendered outstanding services to religious studies research are target groups and potential award winners.
Since the Forum for World Religions regards itself as ecumenical-Christian and Kurt Schubert was a Catholic, the award is Christian in character.
Objectives
Appreciation and promotion of interreligious dialogue and the fight against religion-related hostility, in particular, Antisemitism. Encounter, dialogue and communication of historical experiences are the means to counter xenophobia, prejudice and anti-Semitism.
Promotion of research in religious studies (in the field of Jewish studies and classical philology).

The prize was first awarded in 2010. Initially, it was awarded every two years, since 2018 annually.
